Obituary for Lucy A Valente
BARRE- Lucy A. Valente ,94, passed away peacefully, on Valentines Day, February 14,2018 and was reunited with her devoted husband of 74 years, Frank, "Mimo" as he was called by everyone.
She was born on June 6, 1923, in South Barre, MA, the youngest of five children of Italian immigrant parents. She was predeceased by her husband; her sisters Josephine Mansueti, Eleanor Buchinskas, Sara Sdoia and her brother Richard Centracchio.
Lucy is survived by her sons Lewis and Gary; her cherished grandson Free and his wife Noreen; her great-grandchildren Shay and Sakeena and several much loved nieces & nephews. Lucy had a natural ability to make all that came into her home and her life feel loved, which allowed her family to extend well beyond the reach of just blood relatives.Family came first for Lucy, and anyone who knew her was well aware of this.
Lucy had been a very active member of the South Barre Women's Union, "The Club," as she called it; in which she had served as president and treasurer. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, and had a passion for reading, solving crossword puzzles and playing Bingo. She also supported and loved attending the many music activities in which her husband and son, Gary, participated.
After working at many different jobs during her lifetime, she retired from her last job as an aide at Quabbin Regional High School, where she earned the nick name "Sarge". She provided an endless amount of love, strength, support, and devotion to her family and community, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to the Gardner Nursing Home for their love and care in Lucy's final years.
A Calling hours will be held on Saturday,February 24,2018 from 10-11:00AM in Pillsbury Funeral Home 96 S.Barre Rd. Barre. The funeral will follow at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in St.Josephs Cemetery in Barre.
