SPENCER- John Kauppila, 77, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2018 with his loving wife by his side.
He leaves his beloved wife of 44 years, MaryAnn, and his caring stespson Stephen Baublis as well as his cat Frisky, whom he adored. He is predeceased by a brother Raymond Kauppila and a sister Helen Kinne.
He was the son of the late Oiva O. and Ingrid C.(Backstrom) Kauppila and a life long
resident of Spencer. He graduated from David Prouty High School Class of 1958.
John worked at Norton Company for about 35 years. He grew up as a farmer and gardening was something he enjoyed his whole life. One of the great passions in his life was Auto Racing and he always bought a season ticket to Stafford Springs Speedway and regularly watched NASCAR Races on TV. He also enjoyed going to Misquamecuit Beach and camping at Burlingame State Park.
John was a Free Mason and a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer where he volunteered helping out in the Thrift Shop. He loved to Square Dance, as well as traveling to Hawaii, Florida, a Cruise through the Panama Canal , Italy, Sicily, Alabama, Missouri, Dolly Wood in Tennessee, and took many trips to Lancaster Pennsylvania.
The family would like to Thank the Staff at Overlook Hospice, Michele and Nurse Donna Fimian, for the kind, loving, professional care they gave John.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 7,2018 at 11:00AM in Pillsbury Funeral Home 163 Main St. Spencer . A calling hour will be held from 10-11AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Spencer. For an online tribute please visit: Pillsburyfuneralhome.com
