Obituary for Carl F Nimtz

HARDWICK- Carl Frederick Nimtz, 90, died Saturday, October 31, 2015. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, P. Ernestine (Hugo) Nimtz.

Carl was born in Ware, Massachusetts on December 30, 1924 and grew up in Wheelwright, MA, the son of the late Frederick Julius Nimtz and Dorothy Louise (Wheelock) Nimtz.

Carl served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II for three years which included campaigns in New Gunea and the Philippines. Carl then obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Worcester State Teachers College. He later obtained a Masters degree from Western Connecticut State Teachers College and a Six-Year Certificate from Weslyan University. Carl taught in the Easton Regional Redding School District in Connecticut, most of his teaching career as an English teacher at Joel Barlow High School. Upon retirement, he returned to Massachusetts to his hometown. Carl was passionate about gardening, animals and good music. But above all, throughout his life, he encouraged others to share in his love of literature.


Carl is survived by his daughters, Jennie Elaine Coe of Middlebury, CT, Carla Louise Soder of Boston, MA,.; grandchildren ,Benjamin, Timothy, Margaret & her husband Justin and Edward; three great grandchildren; his very close friends Gary Flood, Peggy Mullen, Loren “The Professor” Gould and Ray and Ingrid Stanley. He was predeceased by his brother, Olin Nimtz.

Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral for Carl on Friday, November 6,2015 at 11:00AM in Pillsbury Funeral Home 96 S.Barre Rd. Barre. A calling hour will be held from 9:45-10:45AM prior to the funeral. Burial with military honors will follow in Hardwick Center Cemetery.
