Obituary for Edith Malynowski (Gustafson)

BROOKFIELD- Edith (Gustafson) Malynowski, a long-time resident of Brookfield, died after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 26,2016 in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Edith was born in 1929 in Coldbrook (Barre), MA, part of the Quabbin watershed area. She was the youngest of 9 children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ed, who coincidentally died 36 years earlier on the same date, April 26 (1980). Edith is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.

Edith began her career at Paul Revere Insurance Company in Worcester, where she worked for many years. Eventually Edith found her true calling in the ministry, working as an administrative assistant at United Church of Christ, where the former Reverend Sparrow said she was the most beloved employee of the UCC.

Greatly loved by her extended family of nieces and nephews, they benefited from her generosity, helpfulness, humor and caring. She made delectable baked goods, especially her famous coffee cake and brownies, that she brought to family, friends, town workers and charity events. In her lovely, cozy and cared for home there was evidence of all that she loved – family, friends and all things related to tea, and doves/pigeons.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staffs at Quaboag Nursing Home, Mary Lane Hospital and the nurses and doctors in Respiratory Care at Baystate Medical Center whose kindness and compassion was matched only by Edith’s spirit.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to the Hayden Masonic Lodge 3 High School Drive, North Brookfield, MA 01535.Pillsbury Funeral Home 3 West Brookfield Rd. Brookfield is directing arrangements.
