Obituary for Mabel P Buzzell (Tucker)

NORTH BROOKFIELD- Mabel (Tucker) Buzzell, 78, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018, surrounded by her family after a long illness.

Mabel was born on March 24, 1940, in Ware, of parents Joseph and Margaret Tucker. She graduated from North Brookfield High School in 1958. She then attended The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1961, and later received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Worcester State College in 1985. Mabel worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital in Worcester (now UMass Memorial) from 1961 to her retirement in 2007, spending the majority of those years on the ICU. She was a board member for the alumni association for many years.

Mabel was a lifelong member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in North Brookfield, where she was involved as a member of the vestry, the altar guild, the choir, and was active in the Episcopal Church Women’s organization. She was a dedicated member of the Post 41 North Brookfield American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary since 1966; in 2017 a recognition dinner was given in honor of her fifty-plus years of service to her community and to veterans.Mabel enjoyed volunteering at the North Brookfield Senior Center, where she was a member of the blood pressure clinic, and was a member of the Friends of the Senior Center.

Mabel's hobbies include knitting and crocheting, reading, making puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to root for her favorite sports teams, the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Ralph Buzzell, as well as her sons, Joseph and his wife Tina of North Brookfield, and James and his wife Christine of North Brookfield; her two sisters Catherine Strandberg of North Brookfield and Margaret Steiger of Spencer; and her three grandchildren, Sam, Catherine, and Carli Buzzell.She is predeceased by her brother George Tucker and her sister Rose Monson.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm in Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert Street, North Brookfield. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am in Christ Memorial Episcopal Church North Main St. in North Brookfield. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, the Second Chance Animal Shelter or the Friends of the North Brookfield Town House.
