BARRE- Theodore James Kowal, Jr., 84, of Oakham Road, died peacefully at his home with family on January 18,2019 following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia L. (Bashore).

Born in Ware on February 18, 1934, he was the oldest son of the late Theodore J. and Annie F. (Polack) Kowal. He graduated from Barre High in 1951.
Following graduation, he joined the Air Force, serving for twenty years as an air traffic controller, and retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His military career included service in Germany, Korea, and Okinawa, along with stints at several U.S. bases including Clinton County Air Force Base in Wilmington, Ohio where he was to meet his future wife.
After his retirement from military life, he moved his family back to Barre. He was employed as a branch manager at WCIS bank for many years, then later in life obtained a realtor’s license and worked for Neylon Real Estate.
In addition to his wife Pat, he leaves four children, Anne Kowal (David Casebier) of Carlisle; T.J. Kowal of Barre, John Kowal (Amy) of Hubbardston, and Paul Kowal of Branford, CT, and three beloved grandchildren, Jake, Hannah, and Ryan Kowal. He also leaves his sister Evelyn Blake of Naples, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Stephen J. and brother Michael (Mickey) Kowal.
Ted served on the Barre Finance Committee, and was an active member of American Legion Post 2, including acting as Adjuvant for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading, especially history, and watching sports.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses at the Barre Health Center and to Dr. Earls for his extraordinary care and compassion during his treatment of Ted over the years.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, January 28,2019 from 4-7PM in Pillsbury Funeral Home 96 S.Barre Rd. Barre. The funeral will be held on Tuesday with a Mass at 11:00AM in St.Thomas A Becket Church Vernon Ave S.Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, P.O.
