Her husband, Everett Kettell, died on April 25, 1986. She is survived by her three beloved daughters Jane Krakowsky of Barre, Janet, wife of James Boudreau of Oakham, and Elizabeth Gaffney of Barre, two granddaughters – Bridgette, wife of Donald Daley of Uxbridge and Michelle, wife of Jeremy Ristau of Marlboro - and four great-grandchildren – Brayden and Brie Daley, and Amelia and Ethan Ristau.
Born in Barre, she was the daughter of Emelda and George Fielding of South Street. She had two siblings, Elizabeth Locke of Rutland, and Walter Fielding of Barre, both of whom predeceased her.
“Mary” had a keen interest in the sciences and history. She was a great cook, enjoyed writing poetry and loved the family’s annual costume party. She loved nature and had a special fondness for cats and feeding wild birds.
She was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion for 37 years. She was loved, not only by her family, but her friends and other relations. She will be sorely missed, not only her love which she freely gave, but her humor and her outlook on life.
Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. She just asked that everyone remember her as she was. Her family will remember that she was a loving, generous person and that she loved them above all else. In lieu of cards or flowers, donations may be made to the Barre Rescue Squad or to the American Legion Barre Post 2. Pillsbury Funeral Home 96 S.Barre Rd. Barre is directing arrangements.
