NORTH BROOKFIELD- David A Harris, 79, of North Brookfield, MA. passed away at home on March 27,2021 surrounded by his family.

David grew up in Acton, MA, and graduated from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. He received his B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnical Institute.

David retired from Babcock Power in Worcester after a long distinguished career in the power plant industry. He held many positions in business development and was fortunate to serve as Director of International Marketing where he had the opportunity to travel the world. He is a U.S. patent holder who has authorized and presented numerous technical papers on boiler design.

David served proudly on several volunteer fire departments in the towns he lived in over the years, including Acton, Simsbury, CT and Paxton, MA. He also served on the North Brookfield Fire Headquarters Building Committee. Firefighting was his true passion and he treasured the camaraderie and friendships that developed among his fellow firefighters.

David was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Leota Harris; his son Michael; his beloved partner Julie McCarthy; and his brother Philip Harris.

David is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Rice and her husband Stephen, Brattleboro, VT; son David Harris and his wife Mandie, Worcester, MA; grandchildren Kayla, Molly, Jeremy, Samuel, Alastair, and Ryan; sister Ruth Thatcher, Acton, MA and numerous nieces and nephews including 11 nephews inherited from Julie.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Baystate Hospice for their support and care of David and his family.

Private interment of his ashes will be at a later date in the Harris family gravesite in Evergreen Cemetery, Acton MA. Donations may be made in his and K. Julie McCarthy’s name to The Friends of The North Brookfield Townhouse, 215 N.Main St., North Brookfield, MA 01535. Arrangements are under the care of Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert St. North Brookfield.
