OAKHAM- Wesley Howard Dwelly,84, passed away on Saturday, May 22,2021 in St. Vincent Hospital with his wife by his side. He was born on the family farm in Oakham, the son of Robert C. and Sarah A. (Watson) Dwelly and was a lifelong resident of the town.

After retiring Wes did much research on the lost town of Coldbrook, he completed a map of the former village and many photos and information regarding it. He led several historical walks through the area. His greatest interest however was in growing Atlantic Giant Pumpkins. He and Marcia met many wonderful pumpkin growers over the years and enjoyed going to fairs and weigh-offs. Wes was a Model A Ford enthusiast, having owned several of these cars over his lifetime. He had been working on restoring a 1931 Modell A Ford for the past year.

Wes and Marcia enjoyed traveling, especially to the warm island of Aruba in the winter. They also visited many National Parks, enjoyed cruising, and took a special trip to Sicily to meet some of Marcia’s family.

When my son Mike was just a little kid he wanted to be a fisherman. Wes kept an eye out for him when he was fishing the local streams. Always had a kind word of encouragement for him. One day Mike accidentally snagged his ear with his hook. Wes slowly followed him home in the highway truck, encouraging him all the way. When Mike finally reached home Wes told me how to release the hook. I was grateful as was Mike. Our friend and neighbor was a help to the kids and they appreciated Wes. He has been a good friend for many years, he will be missed.
